Recovery Tools will only* run on a firmare version LOWER than 59.00.00, such as the common 56.00.530 release.

If Recovery Tools does not start automatically, or you see an error message stating "Date retrieval complete", there are a number of possible reasons for this error. Essentially, the car is not reading the USB memory stick correctly.

Below is an exhaustive list of actions which should eliminate all possible reasons for Recovery Tools not loading.

1) Format the previously working USB memory stick as FAT32

2) Copy *only* the contents of the Step1-RecoveryTools folder to the root of that USB memory stick

3) Remove all other USB memory sticks / SD cards (map card) from your car

4) Turn on the ignition in your car by pressing the Start button once *without* your foot on either the brake or clutch pedals

5) Wait until the CMU has fully booted (until after you can select the various applications - Settings / Navigation / Communication etc.)

6) Perform a reboot of the CMU by pressing and holding the MUTE, NAV & BACK buttons together for abut 20 seconds, until the screen goes blank

7) Wait until the CMU has fully booted (until after you can select the various applications - Settings / Navigation / Communication etc.)

8) Insert the USB memory stick into the TOP USB port in the car

9) Ensure the CMU recognises the USB memory stick - it should show a message similar to "Memory Stick inserted" at the top of the screen

10) Wait up to 10 minutes for the Recovery Tools application to start running- if any messages are displayed on screen take a note of them

11) If Recovery Tools has not started after 10 minutes, remove the USB memory stick and insert it into the BOTTOM USB port in the car

12) Wait another 10 minutes for the Recovery Tools application to start running - if any messages are displayed on screen take a note of them

* Once installed, Recovery Tools will remain functional on firmwares up to and including 70.00.100, but will NOT work on newer firmwares.

YES, our kit will work in your car, but extra pre-requisite steps need to be taken prior to perfoming the Android Auto & Apple CarPlay installation.

Most cars sold in North America (USA & Canada) were shipped with a version 59.00.xx firmware pre-installed. This firmware is locked from the factory, so can not be updated in precisely the same way as European cars.

Please read this FAQ for further details.
